What to do on your first day in a new room
Take photos before unpacking. Note damage, test the lock, outlets, lights, window, and smoke alarm, and report issues that need attention. Save the photos with the move-in date.
Set up sleep and work first: bed, charging, a light, clothes, medications, and documents. Then learn the practical systems—keys, laundry, trash, mail, Wi-Fi, and the kitchen.
Meet your roommates if you have not already. A simple introduction and a question about house routines establishes a better first day than disappearing behind a wall of boxes.
