Cooking for the house: rotations that work

July 30, 2024

Start small: one or two shared dinners each week. Assign a cook, a shopper if needed, and cleanup help. Rotate the whole job, not just the cooking, so one person does not become the invisible support staff.

Set a budget and dietary rules in advance. Choose recipes that scale, use common equipment, and tolerate a late arrival. A big pot of soup is often a better shared meal than four separate elaborate dishes.

Allow skips. People travel, work late, and lose energy. A rotation should resume easily after a missed week.
