How to introduce a new pet to the household
Tell the household when the animal is arriving and give everyone a short description of the plan. Prepare food, water, bedding, a crate or safe room, cleaning supplies, and an escape-proof route through doors and hallways.
Keep the first introduction quiet. Let roommates meet the animal one at a time if that is easier, and do not force contact. New pets need rest; new roommates need a chance to learn the animal’s signals and boundaries.
Check in after several days. Ask about noise, access, odor, cleaning, and any safety concern. Address the small issues while they are still small.
