How to handle the roommate who does zero chores

November 3, 2024

Name the missed tasks and dates without attacking the person. Ask whether the system is unclear or whether they will take a different task. Set a written agreement with a deadline and check-in.

Stop absorbing every missed chore in silence. If the behavior continues, use consequences allowed by the household agreement, such as paying for a cleaner, and involve the lease-holder if the home or tenancy is affected.

Do not use lockouts or property removal. Chores are a household issue, not permission for self-help punishment.
