How to divide chores fairly without keeping score

November 23, 2024

Name the tasks, estimate their frequency, and rotate or assign them. Include invisible work such as buying supplies, scheduling repairs, taking bins out, and replacing shared basics.

Allow reasonable flexibility for travel, illness, or a difficult week, but make swaps explicit. A person who skips a task should arrange a replacement or take the next one.

Do not count every minute. Look for a system where no one becomes the permanent cleaner, reminder, or household manager.
