De-escalating a heated roommate argument
Lower your voice, stop bringing in old grievances, and name the need for a break: “I want to solve this, but I need twenty minutes.” Leave the shared space if necessary and agree on a time to return.
When you resume, state one issue, one impact, and one request. Do not block exits, follow someone, threaten them, or try to win by volume.
If anyone feels unsafe, end the conversation and contact a trusted person, mediator, or emergency resource as appropriate.
