Building a queer household that feels like home

January 18, 2025

Set practical norms for rent, chores, guests, noise, shared food, privacy, and conflict. Make the rules visible and revise them when the household changes. Do not leave emotional labor, safety planning, or cleanup to the same person by default.

Create optional ways to connect while respecting solitude. Mark celebrations if people want to, share resources, and make it normal to say when a visitor or joke makes the home feel unsafe.

Home should be a place where everyone can rest, not perform belonging.
