Making a shared home welcoming to everyone

March 5, 2025

Give each resident clear access to keys, storage, common areas, house information, and decisions that affect them. Ask before changing furniture, routines, or guest expectations. Keep shared spaces usable for cooking, resting, work, and connection.

Avoid treating one person’s habits as the default. Label household supplies, explain appliances and building rules, and make room for dietary, religious, disability-related, or cultural needs through practical conversation.

Welcoming does not mean everyone becomes close friends. It means everyone can belong without shrinking themselves.
