Language access and your housing rights
Ask for important information in writing and request interpretation or translation help from a trusted organization when needed. Do not sign a lease, notice, buyout, or payment agreement that you do not understand. Keep the original alongside any translation.
For a shared home, write essential rules in plain language and use dates, amounts, and names rather than ambiguous shorthand. Confirm understanding without treating someone’s accent or language as a reason to exclude them.
