Reasonable accommodations for renters with disabilities
A reasonable accommodation can be a change or exception needed for a person with a disability to have equal opportunity to use and enjoy housing. Requests are fact-specific: make them in writing, explain the requested change, and keep the response.
If the disability-related need is not obvious, a provider may seek reliable supporting information. The discussion should focus on the requested accommodation, not a broad demand for private medical details. A provider may consider undue burden, fundamental alteration, or direct safety concerns under applicable law.
