How to report housing discrimination in San Francisco

March 25, 2025

Save the listing, messages, notices, application, receipts, and names of everyone involved. Write a short timeline: what happened, when, where, and why you believe it relates to a protected characteristic. Keep the original materials unchanged.

San Francisco’s Human Rights Commission accepts discrimination-intake requests, and the California Civil Rights Department and HUD also provide complaint processes. Deadlines and jurisdiction can differ, so do not wait to seek help.

An agency can evaluate the facts; a social-media post cannot replace a report.
