How to write an inclusive room listing
State rent, deposit, dates, room type, shared spaces, household size, accessibility facts, smoking or pet rules, work schedules, and how to apply. Write what the home requires: “quiet after 10,” “two flights of stairs,” or “shared bath.”
Avoid preferences based on protected traits or coded language that signals exclusion. Do not ask applicants for personal details that are unrelated to tenancy, payment, or household compatibility.
An inclusive listing is more precise, not less. The right applicant learns what the room is actually like before spending time on a tour.
