How to keep your first night in a new home safe
Confirm you received the agreed keys and that doors and windows close and lock. Locate exits, smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms, breaker panel, water shutoff if shown, and the building entry procedure. Save the landlord or manager contact and an emergency number.
Tell a friend the address and that you arrived. Keep documents, medication, valuables, and phone charger together until the home feels organized. Meet the residents and learn any practical safety rules.
If something essential is not as represented, document it immediately and raise it in writing.
