What to do if you've been scammed on a room
Save the listing, messages, agreement, payment receipt, account details, photos, and any identification the scammer used. Contact the payment provider immediately to ask whether a transfer can be stopped or flagged. Do not send more money to “recover” the first payment.
Report the ad to the platform or group administrator, local law enforcement, the FTC, and the California attorney general. Tell your bank if you shared financial information and consider identity-theft steps if you sent documents.
Then secure a safe temporary place to stay. Shame helps scammers; documentation helps you.
