The overseas-landlord scam and how to avoid it
A real owner may travel. But a landlord who is always abroad, cannot arrange a proper viewing, and asks for money to ship keys is giving you a reason to stop. Ask for a local, verifiable agent or a trusted person who can show the actual room.
Verify the owner or manager independently, tour the home, and read written terms before paying. Do not let a story about a family emergency or a competing applicant override those checks.
If the only route to keys is a wire transfer, gift card, or cryptocurrency payment, leave the deal.
