How to protect your personal info during a room search
An initial message needs your name, date, budget, and basic household fit—not a Social Security number, bank login, or full financial history. For a legitimate application, ask why each document is needed, who will see it, and how it will be stored or deleted.
Redact account numbers and unrelated sensitive data. Use a dedicated PDF with current information rather than emailing a whole folder. Do not pay for a credit report ordered through a stranger’s link.
The more urgent a listing feels, the more carefully guard identity documents and money.
