Safe ways to pay a deposit for the first time
See the actual room or use a trusted local representative. Read an agreement that states the deposit amount, purpose, refund terms, rent, start date, and who receives the money. Confirm that person has authority to rent the space.
Use a payment method that creates a clear record, get a receipt immediately, and keep copies of the agreement and messages. Never pay by wire, gift card, cryptocurrency, or cash to a stranger merely to hold a listing.
A deposit is not proof that a deal is real. Verification comes first.
