How to verify a landlord is real
Ask whether the person is the owner, manager, master tenant, or agent. Then check the address through public property records or the management company’s official website. Call the company using the number you find independently, not the number in the listing.
At a tour, ask for company identification or proof of authority appropriate to the role. Make sure the name on the agreement and payment instructions matches the verified person or company.
Do not demand more private information than you need. The point is to confirm authority to rent the room before sending money.
