Working night shifts in a daytime household
Tell the household your sleep window and the noises that wake you most. Use blackout curtains, earplugs, white noise, a door draft blocker, and a quiet route for roommates who leave early.
Agree on a few concrete adjustments: no loud appliances during a set block, advance notice for visitors, and headphones near your room. In exchange, accept that daytime life cannot be perfectly silent.
If sleep remains impossible, change the room setup, use a different sleep location temporarily, or plan a housing change. Chronic exhaustion is not a workable compromise.
