The awkward money talks every roommate should have early
Talk about rent due dates, utilities, deposits, groceries, shared purchases, and what happens if someone cannot pay. Add a discussion of guests, travel, replacements, and how a person leaves mid-lease.
Use numbers and dates, not intentions. “We will split things fairly” is not a plan. “Utilities are divided equally and paid within three days of the bill” is one.
The conversation may feel formal at first. It becomes much more awkward after the first missed payment.
