Setting up a shared household fund that actually works

September 9, 2025

Choose a purpose: basics such as toilet paper, dish soap, trash bags, and shared cleaning supplies. Set a small monthly contribution, a spending limit without group approval, and one person responsible for logging purchases.

Use a shared balance sheet or app. Post receipts and keep the fund separate from rent, deposits, and personal spending. Refill it on a fixed date rather than asking for money each time soap runs out.

Review the amount after two months. A fund that is too large invites disputes; one that is too small is only another bill.
