Subletting your room during a startup sabbatical
Check the lease and obtain required approval before announcing the room. Set exact travel dates, a realistic move-out buffer, and a local contact for true emergencies. Do not promise a subtenant an extension you cannot authorize.
Remove sensitive startup materials, devices, mail, prototypes, and documents. Give the subtenant a written agreement, inventory, repair contact, and household rules. Keep rent and deposit records separate from company expenses.
Price transparently and confirm insurance implications with the relevant provider. A sabbatical may be flexible; the person paying to live in your room needs certainty.
