Subletting for interns: what hosts should know
Confirm that the sublet is permitted before offering it. State the exact start and end dates, rent, utilities, deposit, furniture, house rules, transit reality, and whether the intern will share the home with others.
Many interns are moving from out of state and may be pressured by a fixed start date. Show the actual room by video or in person, provide written terms before taking money, and avoid asking for payment through methods that leave no record.
Give practical information: keys, mail, laundry, garbage, internet, emergency contacts, and the process for repairs. A short stay still deserves a legal, safe, and dignified handoff.
