The roommate agreement template every shared home needs
Include these headings: parties and address; lease status; bedroom or space; rent and utilities; deposits; payment dates; chores; shared purchases; guests; pets and smoking; quiet hours; parking and keys; repairs; notice to move; replacement process; and signatures with date.
Under each heading, write an answer that could be followed by someone who was not in the room for the conversation. “We will keep things clean” is vague. “Dishes are washed within 24 hours; bathroom rotates every Sunday” is usable.
Review the agreement after a month and whenever the household changes. Keep it with the lease, receipts, and condition photos. For unusual legal terms, use a local tenant resource or lawyer rather than copying a random form.
