How to be the guest people invite back
Arrive and leave when agreed. Keep your things together, wash what you use, and ask before changing the household’s routine. A host should not have to search for you, clean up after you, or wonder when you will return.
Offer something concrete, but do not turn generosity into a negotiation. Groceries, dinner, laundry help, or a small contribution can be welcome; ask what would help most.
Notice the home’s social boundaries. Some hosts want company; others are offering a couch, not a new housemate. Give them room to be private.
Thank them promptly and leave the space better than you found it. That is the entire formula.
