The etiquette of crashing on someone's couch for a week
Agree on the exact arrival and departure dates before you show up. Ask where to keep your bag, what time people sleep, when the bathroom is busiest, and whether any rooms are off limits.
Keep your belongings compact. Make your bed each morning, clean up after meals, and do not treat the living room as a private bedroom all day. Ask before inviting anyone over or using supplies that are not clearly shared.
Offer a useful contribution: groceries, a meal, a household item, or help with a chore. Respect a host’s routine even if it is different from yours.
Leave on time. The easiest guest to welcome is the one whose promise to leave can be trusted.
