When sharing a room stops making sense
Room sharing may have served a clear purpose: a quick move, debt payoff, school, or a first foothold in San Francisco. Reassess when that purpose changes.
It may be time to leave if sleep is regularly poor, work is suffering, boundaries are ignored, conflict is constant, or the arrangement no longer feels safe. It may also be time if your income or needs have changed and a private room would materially improve your life.
Plan the exit carefully. Review the lease, give the required notice, find a replacement if needed, settle shared purchases, and document deposits. Do not turn dissatisfaction into a sudden disappearance.
Leaving a shared room is not a failure. It is a reasonable response to a home that no longer fits.
