Shared rooms and dating: how to handle it kindly
Discuss dating and overnight guests before either roommate needs an exception. Decide whether guests can enter the room, how much notice is required, how often overnight stays are okay, and where private time can happen instead.
Your roommate does not need to approve your relationship. They do need control over their sleeping space, safety, and ability to rest. A last-minute text is better than no notice, but a shared rule is better still.
If a guest makes someone uncomfortable, take it seriously and talk outside the room. Do not make a roommate argue in front of a stranger.
