Setting boundaries on your first day in a shared room
Before unpacking everything, walk through the room together. Mark bed areas, closet space, shelves, outlets, and the path to the door. Decide what is shared and what is private.
Then cover the routine: alarms, lights-out, calls, guests, food, laundry, cleaning, and temperature. Exchange emergency contacts and agree on how to raise a problem. Put the essentials in a shared note, including rent due dates and who contacts the landlord.
Keep the tone practical. You are not predicting conflict; you are making it less likely. A roommate agreement is most useful when it feels ordinary enough to follow.
Clear first-day boundaries make the room feel safer for both people.
