Storage hacks for two people in one room

May 5, 2026

Use the space under beds first. Low bins, vacuum bags for seasonal clothes, and rolling drawers keep bulky items out of sight. A narrow vertical shelf can hold books and daily supplies without eating floor space.

Divide closets and drawers by person, then label bins that look alike. Hooks on the back of a door can hold bags and coats, but do not overload the door or block its swing. Keep one shared hamper or decide that laundry stays individual.

Avoid storage that climbs into escape routes, windows, heaters, or the other person’s side. Every new container should replace a pile, not create another one.

The best hack is a regular purge. In a shared room, unused things charge rent too.
