How to make a shared room feel like yours
Start with the area you control: bedding, a bedside lamp, a small rug, wall art, and one surface that stays yours. Repeated textures and colors make a compact space feel intentional without crowding it.
Use vertical storage and containers that hide visual clutter. Keep a small tray for daily items so they do not spread across shared surfaces. If you use a curtain or shelf divider, treat both sides as equal; decoration should not take away a roommate’s light or access.
Ask before mounting anything or changing shared furniture. The room should reflect both people, not become an argument in decor.
You do not need much to feel at home. You need a clear place for your things and permission to use it.
