How to share a room and still have privacy
Privacy is not the same as silence or a locked door. In a shared room, it means each person has a defined zone, belongings that are not communal, and times when they are not expected to socialize.
Give each person a bed area, storage, and a shelf or drawer that no one else uses. Use a curtain, bookcase, or screen to create a visual edge where it helps. Keep sensitive items in a lockable box.
Set routines for changing clothes, calls, visitors, and lights-out. A shared calendar can help with important calls or early shifts. Most importantly, allow a roommate to say “not now” without needing a reason.
Small boundaries are kinder than trying to reclaim privacy after it has vanished.
