How to shortlist rooms without wasting weekends
Before scheduling a tour, confirm the basics by message: address or cross streets, rent and utilities, move-in date, lease length, household size, and whether the room is still available. If a poster cannot answer those questions, do not spend your Saturday finding out why.
Use a simple scorecard with your five priorities. Reject rooms that fail a non-negotiable. For the rest, group tours by neighborhood and leave time for transit delays. Three good tours beat eight random ones.
Ask for a current room photo or short video if the listing is sparse. Confirm who will show the home and whether all decision-makers can meet you. Then send a polite confirmation on the day.
Shortlisting is not being picky. It is protecting your time so you can notice the things that matter in person.
