Finding a room near your office without overpaying
Start with your actual work pattern. If you go in two days a week, a slightly longer but simple transit trip may be worth far more than paying a premium to walk five minutes. Map the trip at the hours you will travel, including the walk to the stop.
Search along reliable transit lines and in neighborhoods one transfer away. Compare the full monthly cost: rent, transit, occasional rideshares, and the time you gain or lose. A room near work but far from groceries, friends, or parks can still make daily life harder.
Ask about bike storage, parking, and how safe the walk feels after work. Visit the route once if possible. Then decide how much a shorter commute is actually worth to you.
Convenience should be bought deliberately, not through a vague fear of commuting.
