Furnished vs unfurnished rooms: which is worth it in SF
Furnished rooms are useful for a short stay, a move from out of state, or a first month while you learn the city. You avoid buying a bed and desk immediately, but should inspect every item and record its condition before move-in.
An unfurnished room gives you more control and can make sense for a longer lease. Add the real cost of a mattress, bed frame, desk, storage, delivery, and eventual move. Cheap furniture is not cheap if it is hard to transport or replace.
Ask what “furnished” includes, whether you may remove items, and who pays if something breaks. Put the inventory in writing, with dated photos. For either option, confirm that the room has enough space for the setup you need.
The best choice is the one that fits the length and certainty of your stay.
