A promising prospective roommate gives a clear move-in date, says something real about their routine, and asks sensible questions about the home. They respond to boundaries without argument. If the listing mentions no smoking, quiet nights, or a shared cleaning schedule, they address it directly.
Watch for consistency. Does the person show up when they say they will? Do their answers match their profile and application? Are they comfortable discussing rent, lease status, and references? Reliability in small things is useful evidence.
Do not confuse polish with compatibility. A warm, imperfect note from someone whose schedule and expectations match yours is often better than a polished message from someone who avoids the practical details.
