The best room is rarely waiting in only one place. Search across several channels, then judge every listing by the same standard.
Start with housing marketplaces
Use established room and rental marketplaces, local housing groups, university housing boards, and neighborhood communities. Each has a different mix: fast turnover, friend-of-friend leads, furnished sublets, or long-term households.
Use your own network
Tell former coworkers, classmates, and friends that you are looking. Be specific about budget, date, neighborhoods, and whether you need a private room. A clear note is easy to forward; “let me know if you hear anything” is not.
Keep the search safe
Meet at the property, see the room, and verify the person has authority to rent it before paying. A polished post is not proof. Treat a request for a wire transfer, gift card, or payment before a viewing as a reason to walk away.
The channel matters less than the home. A good listing answers basic questions plainly and makes a real viewing easy.
